Raised on the road with her rock star parents and their band Steel Lotus, it wasnt noticed by Ben Hall and Miranda Merrick, that  whenever baby Serenity screamed in temper, things  happened. Lights flickered,  doors opened, things fell. They lived on a bus most of the time, things like that happened.

Seren was 6 when they spent the christmas with Ben's mother, Audrey, She noticed her grandchild wasn't reading at the correct level, as her neighbours grandson was, the same age. She told the parents to leave Seren with her, or she would involve child protective services. Reluctantly they did so. Giving his mother joint custody, with the understanding that she would spend the holidays with her parents, and term time with her grandmother.

Minor things happened, things could be explained with easy thought. An nicknack moved to another location. Seren getting a cookie..she must have climbed up. Lights flickering again. It was an old house, and not unusual. Then one day, only a few weeks into it. Audrey happened on her grandaughters bedroom, and witnessed a little tea party, at first she thought it cute. Seren making the voices for the teddies and dolls. Then, as the child told them to drink up, the cups raised to the toys mouths as if on strings.

Audrey was a religious woman. And this shocked her, scared her. She was convinced her grandaughter was possessed, or haunted. All that time around rock singers and metal bands, was it to be surprising? She spoke to her church, convinced them the child needed it before it became worse. The first 'exorcism' was performed, and besides terrifying the younster, it had no effect. The second and the third all the same. The fourth, Seren's mind must have gone into survival mode, and repressed the ability. Nothing moved, nothing flickered,  all was quiet.

All was quiet, she went to school, had friends, boyfriends, her parents rock star status giving her some reputation in school. School vacations were spent travelling with her parents. Watching Mom and Dad on stage was always a thrill for her. Of course she had inhertited her parents musical talent. She learned music, piano, at the request of her grandmother, guitar and bass. Her voice was soft and sultry. She was always at the attention of the drama teachers for school performances.

College was fun. She partied, studied and generally had fun. Especially when her parents turned up to play a few gigs in the area. After college, she spent a year on the road with them, sometimes even performing on stage with them. Her father singing 'Changes' on stage with her would always be a happy memory for her.

After that year, she settled down, found a job and an apartment. Waitressing wasnt going to get her songs noticed though, so she started going around open mike nights. Singing, playing guitar. Her own stuff and cover songs. She loved being on the stage. She found a band. Herself on bass and singing, They got a few gigs, just starting out small.

Things are starting to happen again. Maybe because she is settled, maybe because its time she stopped repressing herself. Just..little things. The stirrer in her coffee cup continuing long after she let it go, a pencil she set down, balancing on its point til she  picked it up again. She was noticing, now with curiosity, was it her? What else could she do?
